Hi, I’m traveling to China soon. Can I use my Visa or Mastercard there for payments?

Yes, foreigners can use Visa or Mastercard in China, but mostly at big hotels, upscale restaurants, or touristy places. For everyday shopping or eating at local spots, most places don’t take international cards. Locals mainly use mobile payments like Alipay and WeChat Pay — but the good news is, now tourists can link their foreign credit cards to these apps too. So if you set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before or after you arrive, you’ll be able to pay pretty much anywhere, just like a local.
